New Resource: New Orleans unveils five-year economic development plan
The city of New Orleans and New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA) recently unveiled ProsperityNOLA, a five-year economic development roadmap that frames strategies for five of the city's key growth clusters, such as advanced manufacturing and creative digital media. "It's not just about attracting new business from out of town," stated Aimee Quirk, economic development adviser for Mayor Mitch Landrieu. "We also want to provide opportunities for the businesses and the workforce here." According to NOLABA president and CEO Rod Miller, their approach will be centered on "going into target markets based on our clusters, and telling them the New Orleans story." Milwaukee Food and Beverage cluster helps jumpstart food entrepreneurs
Learn about how the Milwaukee Food and Beverage cluster (FaB) has been empowering local food entrepreneurs. As a $71 billion industry, the food ingredients manufacturing industry is expected to grow at a rate of 14.5 percent nationally. Wisconsin is ranked second in the nation in organic food production, which is expected to grow at an even higher 20 percent rate. And because of its abundance of fresh water, Milwaukee is placed competitively to support these industries. Shelley Jurewicz, vice president of economic development for the economic development organization Milwaukee 7, explains: "We're creating something that is creating the ecosystem for the cluster that we have here to thrive," she said. "We have to play with all shapes and sizes of companies here in the region that are in that space." More
