The Rockford Region Economic Development District is a nonprofit agency whose primary role is to do economic development planning. This includes planning for job creation and growing community wealth.
Economic Development Districts oversee and implement the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (a five-year strategic economic development plan). Our economic development district is financially supported by both Winnebago County, Boone County, Rockford Area Economic Development Council, and Growth Dimensions for Belvidere-Boone County.
As the only federal government agency focused exclusively on economic development, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) plays a critical role in fostering regional economic development efforts in communities across the nation. Through strategic investments that foster job creation and attract private investment, EDA supports development in economically distressed areas of the United States.

Today agricultural research has a direct impact on nearly all aspects of modern life. Scientists at the Agricultural Research Service ( ARS) not only study crops and livestock to improve both quality and quantity but they devise new ways of using those crops to add value, increase exports, improve human health, and protect the environment. We in ARS, like all Americans, are very concerned about safe and nutritious food. We study the bugs that cause food-borne illness and find ways to reduce or eliminate the unwanted pests from the food supply.
