In June 2013, the New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA) and City of New Orleans unveiled ProsperityNOLA, a five-year economic development plan geared toward fostering a more diverse, sustainable, and prosperous New Orleans economy. A living and actionable roadmap, ProsperityNOLA envisions New Orleans as a competitive city where businesses are eager to invest and grow. It aligns proactive steps for realizing this vision by framing strategies for five of the city's key growth clusters, such as advanced manufacturing and creative digital media. While New Orleans’ growth trajectory is strong, there have been and still are significant barriers to overcome. "It's not just about attracting new business from out of town," stated Aimee Quirk, economic development adviser for Mayor Mitch Landrieu. "We also want to provide opportunities for the businesses and the workforce here." According to NOLABA president and CEO Rod Miller, the approach will be centered on "going into target markets based on our clusters, and telling them the New Orleans story."
